Relationship Repair

Building the relationship you deserve.

Are your relationships not working for you? Do you want a healthy relationship that feels loving, secure, and fulfilling – one where you can safely express your wants and needs and let your guard down and be more open with your partner?

Common Relationship Struggles

Romantic relationships are really hard for some people because of the level of vulnerability that those relationships require and create. A fear of vulnerability will prevent close relationships, and if you have been hurt in the past or taught that vulnerability makes you weak or exposes you to getting hurt, then having a healthy, loving, secure relationship will be a struggle for you until you work on the things that happened (or didn’t) to you to cause you to protect yourself in such ways.

  • Fear of Abandonment – Previous neglect or inconsistent love can make you hyperaware of emotional closeness vs distance. This can show up as seeking reassurance, overanalyzing, love addiction, relationship anxiety, or self sabotage.

  • Trust Issues – Betrayal, previous manipulation, or lack of emotional availability by a parent can create fears that most people cannot be trusted. This can lead to relationship anxiety, fear of vulnerability and intimacy, controlling behaviors, or seeking reassurance and validation.

  • Emotional Shutdown – If expressing emotions led to pain in the past, shutting down can feel like the safest option. This might look like avoiding deep conversations, withdrawing during conflict, or struggling to show affection.

  • Conflict Avoidance – If you grew up in a chaotic environment or had an aggressive or rejecting parent, even small disagreements can feel threatening. Your nervous system may react by running, fighting, fearing, submitting, or panicked attempts of attaching.

  • People Pleasing/Lack of Boundaries – If disappointing someone feels unbearable and you regularly give up what you want in favor of pleasing others, then setting boundaries probably feels impossible too. This leads to saying “yes” because you can’t say “no,” obligation to make others happy  (usually at the cost of your happiness), a persistence sense of loneliness, and future resentments.

Repair is possible.  Your relationships don’t have to be a mess forever. With self-awareness, attachment focused therapy, and safe, supportive partners, old patterns can be rewired. Healing starts with recognizing the patterns and then healing the attachment wounds.

Heal Relationship Patterns

EMDR can help you break unhealthy patterns and build more secure connections through attachment repair. By resolving past attachment wounds, you will no longer be controlled by the past and you can learn healthier ways to attach in the present.

Lessens fight, flight, or freeze responses in conflict.

Replaces negative beliefs (“I’m unloveable”) with healthier ones (“I deserve love”).

Helps break cycles of hypervigilance or avoidance.

Eases fears around advocating for yourself.

What is Attachment Repair?

When our emotional needs are unmet in childhood and throughout life, it can cause an insecure attachment style. Our attachment style can influence how we see ourselves, how we love, who we trust, and how we connect with others in adulthood.

ATTACHMENT STYLES

Anxious Attachment

Feeling anxious, needy & preoccupied with the relationship. Fear of rejection & abandonment. Needing much reassurance.

Avoidant Attachment

Feeling closed off, guarded, detached, or emotionally disconnected. Shutting down and out.

Disorganized Attachment

Sometimes anxious or fearful of rejection or abandonment. Sometimes indifferent and aloof. Shutting out your partner.
